Start your musical journey with Tabla for Beginners, conducted by Prasanna Bhure, designed to introduce students to the fundamentals of this classical Indian percussion instrument. This course teaches the basic techniques, rhythms, and traditions of tabla, focusing on proper playing posture, hand positioning, and foundational strokes (Bols) such as Ta, Na, Tin, Te, Dha, Dhin, Ge, and Ka. Students will learn to play simple rhythmic patterns, gradually developing clarity, control, and coordination between the Dayan (right drum) and Bayan (left drum).
The course provides an introduction to Tala (rhythmic cycles), including Teentaal (16 beats), Keherwa (8 beats), and Dadra (6 beats), helping learners maintain steady rhythm across different tempos. Beginners will also practice simple compositions, such as Kayda, Peshkar, and Tukda, learning how tabla is used as both a solo instrument and accompaniment for classical and semi-classical music. Additional lessons cover tabla notation, history, gharanas (styles), and legendary tabla players, giving students a well-rounded understanding of the instrument and its cultural significance. By the end of this course, participants will have developed strong rhythm, proper technique, and the ability to perform basic compositions, preparing them to progress to intermediate and advanced tabla levels.
