Course Content

This course introduces students to the rich tradition of Carnatic music, one of the oldest and most structured classical music systems of South India. Through step-by-step lessons, learners will develop vocal techniques, pitch accuracy, rhythm awareness, and improvisational skills. The course emphasizes both theory and practice, helping students understand the foundational elements of Carnatic music, including sruti (pitch), swaras (notes), ragas (melodic frameworks), and talas (rhythmic cycles).

Students will begin with voice culture exercises and simple compositions, gradually progressing to varnams, kritis, and basic improvisations such as alapana, swarakalpana, and niraval. Along with practical training, the course also explores the cultural and spiritual significance of Carnatic music, nurturing both artistry and appreciation.

By the end of the course, students will have:

A strong foundation in Carnatic vocal technique.

The ability to sing basic compositions with correct sruti and tala alignment.

An introduction to manodharma (creative improvisation).

Enhanced listening and analytical skills in identifying ragas and talas.
