This course also emphasizes ear training, tonal clarity, and coordination, gradually developing the learner’s control over tempo, hand balance, and melodic structure. Alongside playing technique, students gain an introduction to raga theory, Indian music aesthetics, and the spiritual essence of the Santoor, as expressed by maestros like Pt. Shivkumar Sharma.

Rooted in the Hindustani classical music tradition, this course teaches students how to hold the mallets (mezrab), strike the strings correctly, tune the instrument, and produce clean, resonant swaras (notes). Students will learn fundamental alankars, simple compositions, and basic ragas like Bhupali and Durga, along with basic rhythmic cycles (taals) such as Teentaal and Keharwa.
