Piano Pathways: Intermediate Level

🎹Piano Pathways: Intermediate Level is designed for students who already have a solid foundation in piano fundamentals and are ready to advance their technique, musicality, and understanding of more complex repertoire. This course builds on beginner skills with a focus on expressive playing, hands coordination, sight-reading, chords, scales, and musical interpretation.

Week 1: Technique Boost

• Scale review (C, G, F major; intro to D, A)
• Arpeggios: major and minor
• Hanon or Czerny exercises

Week 2: Chord Expansion

• Inversions of triads
• I–IV–V–vi progressions in various keys
• Left-hand accompaniment patterns

Week 3: Sight-Reading & Ear Training

• Daily sight-reading practice strategies
• Interval recognition
• Simple melodic dictation

Week 4: Expressive Playing

• Dynamics, phrasing, pedaling techniques
• Legato and staccato variations
• Interpreting mood and style

Week 5: Rhythmic Development

• Dotted rhythms, syncopation
• 6/8 and compound time signatures
• Playing more rhythmically complex pieces

Week 6: Exploring Styles

• Classical: simplified sonatina or baroque piece
• Pop/jazz: chord charts, lead sheets
• Intro to improvisation or composition

Week 7: Repertoire Focus

• Assigned solo piece based on skill level
• Practice strategies (sectional, slow tempo, etc.)
• Refining technique and expression

Week 8: Performance & Feedback

• Mock recital or video recording
• Peer or instructor feedback
• Progress evaluation and next steps
