Course Content
The course will teach the purest form of Kathak. All the qualities of the Gharanas of Kathak will be taught. This course will help the students develop their individual style and excelling in their professional and personal endeavours. The course will develop the students into both a dancer and an appreciative audience member.
This course offers a foundational journey into Kathak, the classical dance form of North India known for its graceful movements, rhythmic footwork, and expressive storytelling. Rooted in ancient temple traditions and refined in Mughal courts, Kathak blends nritta (pure dance) with abhinaya (expressive dance). Students will learn the basic tatkaar (footwork patterns), hand gestures (mudras), chakkars (spins), and thekas (rhythmic cycles) along with beginner-level compositions like tukras, toras, and tihais.
As the course progresses, dancers are introduced to storytelling techniques through bhavas and facial expressions, helping them portray mythological and devotional themes. Taught with live or recorded tabla and lehra accompaniment, the course encourages rhythm, grace, and cultural understanding.
