About the Course

The beginner’s tabla course is designed to introduce students to the fundamental techniques, rhythms, and traditions of this classical Indian percussion instrument. Tabla, consisting of the Dayan (right drum) and Bayan (left drum), is known for its intricate finger techniques and dynamic tonal variations. This course focuses on building a strong foundation in playing posture, hand positioning, and basic strokes.

Students start by learning the correct sitting posture and hand placement, ensuring comfort and efficiency while playing. They are introduced to basic strokes (bols) such as Ta, Na, Tin, Te, Dha, Dhin, Ge, and Ka, which form the building blocks of tabla compositions. These strokes are practiced individually and in simple rhythmic patterns to develop clarity and control.
