At this stage, students build on foundational knowledge, such as basic rhythms (tala), finger techniques (bols), and patterns (thekas). These classes introduce more complex compositions, including fast-paced tabla bols (like fast thekas and tukras), intricate rhythmic variations, and advanced improvisational techniques (like laya and layakari). Students also learn to enhance their understanding of different ragas and the interplay between tabla and other instruments. Emphasis is placed on improving timing, dynamics, and expression, while also developing the ability to accompany vocal or instrumental performances. Students may be encouraged to participate in small group performances or recitals, allowing them to experience the tabla in a collaborative setting.
