About the Course

This intermediate-level course focuses on mastering Bandishes and Khayal singing in Hindustani Classical music. Students will learn to perform Vilambit and Drut Bandishes, refine their improvisational skills, and enhance vocal techniques. Emphasis will be placed on connecting with ragas' emotional essence, improving rhythm and Taal mastery, and building confidence to perform.

By the end of this course, you'll learn:

  1. Introduction to Khayal Singing

Overview of Khayal style: history, evolution, and significance in Hindustani Classical music

Differentiating between Bada Khayal and Chhota Khayal

Understanding the structure and elements of Khayal (Alap, Bandish, and Taan)

 

2. Improvisation Skills

Developing creativity through raga improvisation

Techniques for free-flowing improvisation within a raga’s structure.

 

3. Vocal Technique Enhancement

Advanced breath control, voice modulation, and tonal clarity

Mastery of ornamentations (Meend, Gamak, Khatka, Murki)

Exercises to improve pitch accuracy and resonance.
